1996 Sealed Star Wars "Shadows of the Empire" Chewbacca action figure
The "Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire" multimedia project was
released in 1996, bridging the gap between "The Empire Strikes
Back" and "Return of the Jedi." It included a novel, comic books,
video games, and merchandise, expanding the Star Wars
universe with new characters and storylines. This particular
Chewbacca figure represents the character in a bounty hunter
disguise, a concept explored within this specific era of Star Wars
storytelling.
Kenner Products, and later Hasbro, produced a wide range of
Star Wars action figures and toys starting in the late 1970s. The
"Shadows of the Empire" line, released in 1996, was part of
Kenner's "Power of the Force 2" (POTF2) collection, which
aimed to revitalize the toy line with more detailed and articulated
figures. These figures are sought after by collectors, especially
those in their original, unopened packaging.
